The new song "Outside Turnstiles" is out now.

My Southern Guides

Dear Listener,

Here’s the first in a series of songs I’ll be content to release under my given name. Though I don’t plan on assembling them in any kind of album format, they do form a kind of series I like to call “Jet Black Eggs” after one of their titles. Consider these tracks the fruit of an attempt to make and—more importantly—finish music without too much fuss about identity, consistency, or collection. I hope you enjoy.

Yours,
Luke Kirkland

You had a thought that you followed
when you walked out those dreadful extremes
and into the Wests in your eyes.

But you’ve had enough and you’ve swallowed
to retreat to those homes you would flee
and wait out the rests of your lives.

Where will you go alone?
Will you keep feeding those woods in your mind?
Save your hide.
Where will you go alone?
Will you keep lifting your legs when you drive?
Stay alive, my Southern guides.

“We must talk.
I have seen where that grave ministry bends and breathes.”

“We must not.
I will keep all these fits in my sleeves gracefully.”

Where will you go alone?
Will you keep feeding those woods in your mind?
Save your hide.
Where will you go alone?
Will you keep lifting your legs when you drive?
Stay alive, my Southern guides.
